Let’s do this, shall we!
Step 1: Think about what you would do if you could not fail. If you were not stuck in a routine you hated and if fear did not overtake your ability to dream.
Think hard. Seriously. Now write it down.
Step 2: Think why! Why do you want this? I mean why REALLY??? Not what you think you should say/think. Not what is your why on the surface. DIG DEAP.
It’s the difference between wanting something because ‘you want to be a BOSS’ and ‘it will give you the time freedom to live comfortably and give you the opportunity to be with your family more.’
Write it down!
WARNING: This step can sometimes be the longest of them all so take your time. It’s also what helps us stick to our goals as it’s attaching a true sentimental value behind it.
Step 3: Why you CAN’T achieve these goals!!! Yup, write down every excuse you could think of that you’ve either already told yourself or think about RIGHT NOW as to why you can’t do this.
Step 4: Get cracking! For every one of those excuses think of a solution whether you think it applies to you or not.
I’ll use myself as an example when it came to working out. I was discouraged about being stuck with my 50+ lbs gained BUT (and here’s the EXCUSE) I just did not have time to workout on the regular and cool healthy daily.
SOLUTION: I now get up (I know…eye roll 🙄 but tell me I don’t get it done!) at 5am every weekday, connect with my accountability partners through Zoom and get my workout in from my basement. And I mean sweatfest!!!
I also meal PLAN my food every weekend so I know exactly what to buy (I grocery shop online…yup. TIME SAVER), and I spend 2 hours on Sundays cooking healthy meals that fit my plan and my family will have for the entire week. So, no long trips to the grocery store with the kids. No daily cooking or brain energy used to think of what to make which I had no time for! Done!
Step 5: Pick 1 thing from Step 1. Yes, 1. That’s 1 more thing more than you would have accomplished had you not do this exercise. Right?!
Now plan it out. Take all the excuses (from Step 2) you had for that 1 thing and crush them with the solution you wrote down in Step 3.
And don’t wait. Don’t wait till Jan 1st…nothing magical is going to happen on Jan 1st.
Think about it. If you start today, you will be well on your way to getting closer to that selected goal.
And you know what’s going to happen once you achieve…because, friend, you totally can…you get to pick another goal from your list in Step 1…AMAZING!
Here’s the thing…some goals will take weeks to achieve and others years. But if you don’t start now you’ll end up telling yourself in 5 years “if only I started then…”.
We’ve all done it. I’m soooo guilty of this, myself. But I’m also happy that I can now say I’m working towards my goals in both my fitness, family and life.
